Understanding Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi


Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi is undoubtedly one of the most influential saints of recent times. This is an attempt to gain a holistic appreciation of Bhagavan Ramana's teachings. This article derives its content from the teachings of Bhagavan Ramana Maharshi and Sri Annamalai Swami (who is a direct disciple of Ramana), however I present this story as I understand it. 

To set the tone of this elaboration, let me start with the following two statements:

Ramana Maharshi from "Be as You Are":

Q: Doubts are always arising. Hence my question.
A: A doubt arises and is cleared. Another arises and that is cleared, making way for yet another; and so it goes on. So there is no possibility of clearing away all doubts. See to whom the doubts arise. Go to their source and abide in it. Then they cease to arise. That is how doubts are to be cleared.

Now lets see another statement, this time from Annamalai Swami:
